How To Use Twitter As A Marketing Tool

Twitter is one of the social media. It is pretty much a blog combined with a chat room, so basically allows you a platform to get your ideas before a group of people in real time. Before we get into the meat of my article, I want to share something really funny that happened when I wrote this: When I was dictating the title of my article, I spit out the dictation software this sentence instead: "how to use torture as a marketing tool"

Back on topic: It might be helpful to briefly discuss how Twitter works: This is sort of like a walkie talkie in that only people who have switched to the channel you (by following you) can receive your message. In the same way, you will only receive messages from people who have switched channels (by following them.)

So, the first order of business, once you join, is to start adding people to your followers list. You then will switch to their channel and can receive their messages. Who should you follow? Anyone who is interested in your niche. So if you are promoting offers to make money, you have to follow people who are interested in making money. If you are promoting a dog training book or technique, then the people who are interested in dogs would be appropriate. Use the "find people" tool at the top right of your screen when you log into your Twitter account and type in keywords related to your niche. You then will pull up a list of Twitter accounts with the keyword tag. Choose one or two accounts as the account "basis" of the list and start following people who follow the account. I had to put a word of caution here: Twitter followers has no limits: you can not follow more than 2000 at a time until the 2000 or more people who follow you. After that point, you can follow the additional amount not greater than 110% of the number of people who follow you. Thus, you have to be careful about who you follow. Do not feel the need to follow someone just because they follow you. You want followers who will actually read your tweets, and not only follow you to increase the number of their followers.

Once people start to follow you, you will be able to send a message. What should you "tweet" about? Well there are no hard and fast rules here, other than you should always aim to send no more than one message to each of the three promotional messages you send out. The reason for this is that you want to give your followers a reason to keep following you, and promotional messages constantly (like one after another, all day) is probably the fastest way to get "unfollowed" really fast. If used wisely, Twitter can be a great marketing resource. You can use it to build a list of followers is very interested in what you have to say. That, in the Internet marketing terms, is like having money in the bank.
